TWELVE CYCLES and
Supporting Maggie’s Cancer Centre
2025
Developed during her own chemotherapy treatment, this series of works continues Francisca Prieto’s ongoing interest in documenting, collecting, and transforming fragments charged with humanity.
Twelve spontaneous embroideries*, produced during each chemotherapy session, trace subtle shifts in physical and psychological states across the twelve treatment cycles. Variations in form, rhythm, density, and colour reflect the gradual progression and deterioration experienced over the course of the treatment.
Alongside the embroideries, Prieto preserves medical remnants connected to the treatment process as part of the work’s material and experiential record, including pre medication packaging, intravenous cannulas, and blood collection butterfly needles bearing traces of her own blood. Clinical and deeply personal objects are transformed into materials of reflection, preservation, and documentation.
In honour of the support received during treatment, Prieto is supporting Maggie’s Cancer Centre through fundraising participation in the London Landmarks Half Marathon, with a percentage of sales across the year contributing to Maggie’s vital work supporting people living with cancer.
