Transition II
Transition I-III explores the fluid nature of living between two cultures, capturing the emotional shift that occurs over time. Each work is gilded, symbolising the idealisation of one culture as its influence becomes more abstract and distant, while colour remains vivid and tangible, representing the more present and immediate cultural experience. The fluctuation between these two realities is ever-present, with the dominant culture changing depending on one's current context.
Gold is a shimmering ideal here: tantalising memories, rich and reflective as one’s cultural heritage. Yet the colour of reality dances upon the gilding, bright in blues and pinks, and then more subtle in the paper-coloured tickets of everyday life. The separation between the two is clear, yet the distinction is less marked than the other Echoes series, reflecting the interplay between cultural influences and the undeniable impact of one’s background on their experience.
