Between Folds / Design Journal
The unfolded pages of the monthly design journal The Art-Workman explore the tangling of inspiration behind nineteenth-century interiors. Elaborate pattern is repeated across plaster, paper, metal and porcelain, morphing in and out of different materials; seamlessly shaping to the designer’s will. Sculpted plaster hardens to the flat face of printed wallpaper, while flourishing metalwork swells to the rounded flick of a jug handle. With use and scale disguised, each design flows effortlessly into the other in a celebration of style. The text forms a forward slash, symbolic of the ease of equivalence and the ever-evolving ambition of design to embellish and make anew.
